MichAGAIN in D.C. gathers big crowd
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s MichAGAIN Campaign was in full effect on June 29, 2011 at Policy Lounge in Washington DC. The group of state and local economic development professionals, university officials, and company representatives put on what some said was “the best event I have ever been to since moving to DC from Michigan.”
More than 125 people came out to hear what is really happening in Michigan. The evening included humorous and inspirational talks from Stephen Rapundalo of MichBIO, John Hill of the Michigan State University Alumni Association, and Joan Dunbar of Wayne State University. The theme of the discussion then turned to the ever popular topic of JOBS. Kimberly Bankston of General Electric
and Marshall Weir of Mobiata stole the show by sharing their amazing stories of the growth, success, and expansion that both companies are experiencing in Michigan. Combined they offered more than 300 current job opportunities and encouraged the crowd to consider a move back to Pure Michigan.

Boston - April 6, 2011
The MichAGAIN team visited Boston during a lively week of events including BioMed, the Angel Capital Association Annual Summit, and more! We blanketed the area with Michigan positive message messages and it sure paid off. Recent articles in Xconomy and positive pieces by a renown technology blogger have taken our message viral.
At our site selection consultant luncheon, one native Bostonian who had never been to Michigan before said, “What the deal with all this positive publicity about Michigan? I actually think I might want to make a trip to the state just to see what all the buzz is about.” This is a pretty bold statement from a Bostonian which is home to a business incubator that house more than 300 companies and actually turns a profit! We have much to learn from the Cambridge Innovation Center and their seven floors of life sciences incubation.
Our MichAGAIN alumni reception was the swan song of our Boston trip and it couldn’t have been more successful. We welcomed nearly 100 Boston residents who were very excited about learning about the new successful developments in the state. I even had a chance to chat with two Harvard and U-M grads, in the process of locating back to our region and looking for employment.
